I think 6K is the sweet spot as far as I can tell.
Shifting after that seems to bog the car a bit (I don't feel the limiter, but maybe I get too close)
i usually shift around 6400-6500 just before the rev limiter , and ive ran 15.46 @ 91 int he g/fs eco

Nice time man, I'll do it legit this summer.
For some reason my ECO just loves the 6K, I've hit the limiter b4, maybe I can't beat it 100% of the time.
From the dyno plots I've seen, HP and torque drop at about 5700, which in the real world means almost nothing to me.
I'm a beleiver in no engine is the same, and that's my sweet spot at 6K.
I apprciate your input, so drive your g/f car around and see if that's good or not.
well shifting lower , netted lower times

I always shift at 6500 and I do fill a slight bog, but I get better times this way. My best stock time was a 9.8 in the 1/8.
Thats why I need the track, my butt dyno isn't exactly 100% accurate, thanks fellaz.
weird, i feel that if i shift before 6,300-6,500, its not as fast. i almost hit the rev limiter all the time but i feel it better that way. i run a 15.76 with just exhaust. i will try shifting at 6000 next time
I do:
1-2 6K
2-3 ^
3+ 6400
This is all practice for the real deal, I guess I just gotta see.
I usually try to launch at around 2500, otherwise I spin, and wheel hop at the 1-2.
Can't really do much now in the winter, but I'm kinda curious as to how others do it B4 track time...
I shift 6k and i run 15.19 at 90 mph
I will assume you are spraying with those ets.
I checked your profile, and I've seen faster times, so wass up?
from what i feel? i see no reason to rev it past 6000 rpm at least thats where i shift it feels like it bogs down after 6k or if you hit the rev limiter

salut gadz24 !!! And no his not spraying is an expert in driving...
Has anyone else noticed that the car jumps really hard going into second and even third if you shift at 6k or just past it. Its probably the mad torque our cars have , but just wondering if your cars do it too?
mine does
driving around town i start in 2nd and shift at 2K RPM. Thats normally enough for most people to think i'm racing. Racing between 6-6.5K, maybe sooner. depends on when i come off my seat from acceleration drop.
Yes, wheel spin in 2nd is good. i assume you mean spin and not hop, if the car hops try letting of the clutch smoother, don't let it drop.
hop=bad!! loss of traction=slower
Yeah, I love that lurching into 2nd and 3rd with the wheel chirp, haha, these cars are fun for "economy" cars, aren't they? I usually shift just before redline when going all out. Sometimes I ease off and shift earlier, if I notice I am really spanking someone. Heh.

2004 Electric Blue Sunfire.
i changeed my shruts uot for stiffer ones and the front end doesnt come up as much and less wheel hop
Yeah I just mean it chirps and puts you back in the seat, not wheel hop, "thats bad" says the teacher, lol. Just wondering if it was my aggresive driving style or if i'm feeling things, lol....................later, James
shifting @ higher RPMS let you catch the next gear
@ higher rpms
say you take 2nd to 6300
you could catch 3rd @ 3500 where we start peakin torque
thats the spot you want to shift to
but you got to shift quick to catch it...
the B&M quick shifter helps alot for this

how about sort of double clutching, when ur getting to the rev limiter hit the clutch as ur getting there and shift so ur not hitting the rev limiter but coming close...not sure if you'll understand what i mean. that could still leave you at high rpms going into next gear.
i shift about 5-6 grand... Dont want to ruin my new car soo soon
2004 Cavalier ~ 15.98 - Stock
i shift at 6100-6200 rpm and my best run is 14.9 @ 91 mph
on the dyno, my hp and torque drop at 6000, the beast have 139 fwhp @ 5900-6000 rpm
bone stock sunfire 1997
on the street.. like normal driving.. i usually shift at about 5k
but on the strip, i usually shift at like 6300....
Got a question for you guys tho..... Whenever im agressivly driving on the street, and i punch it in 1st.. i ALWAYS bounce it off my rev limiter.... it just comes up so quickly, lol and my reflex'es suck... anyway. i konw im wasting alot of fuel, but i love the sound at redline..... but i want to know... Will this mess my engine up?
id say rev limiter gets hit atleast 3 or 4 times a week LOL
lol i wonder the answer to that same question
new car? i'm not saying it will def. reck ur engine but always reving it up that high isnt healthy. i use to be the same way, i use to take it up to 5k but i chilled since when i first got my car. i dont even shift above 2900-3000 Rpms now when normally driving. when racing i take it all the way up but not to rev limiter. 15.9 not a bad time. i got a 15.81 with a CAI in but i still had a bad 60 ft..could have had a better time.
