Just wondering if I should switch to it?
I know the benefits of less wear to internal componets and what not.

But I have heard a few rumours on it making the engine feel better in the low rpm range and run alot smoother.

I am just wondering is it worth the cost difference over regular oil

also is there a specific way I would need to switch over to it? Do I need to get all od the other oil out or will some residue be fine?

I would say it`s definately worth changing over to synthetic oil, and their is no special procedure to do it either. Just go get the oil, and filter and change it like you would any other time. I personaly like Royal Purple, but the new mobil one extended performance work`s very well too. And don`t believe in the old Chevy @!#$ about the heavey oil is better. Maybe it was then, but not now.Use only what it call`s for: 5w-30 at least untill around 100,000 miles, then maybe go to the 10w-30, but never go any higher than that. It will do in the motor if you do. So I hope this helped you.

I used 10W30 in the summer and 5W30 in the winter but Mobil 1's new oil is good for all year round. It was before but they have improved it.

I used both regular and synthetic oil and didn't really notice a diffrence. Maybe because I have 20 000 miles on it?..

Every one with a car should listen to what I have to say. Use only Mobil 1 synthetic oil because it is the only synthetic oil that does not use petroleum in their oils.

Amsiol doesn't use petroleum in their oil either. Also royal purple is completely synthetic to the best of my knowledge.

i might switch to mobil1 0w20 here soon

yeah royal purple is completely synthetic......also a good reason the oil really is purple

AmsOil is the only way to go, Ive seen pics of the diff in oils and AmsOil is the best.........Purely my opinion

Mobil 1 is good, but if you live in a hot climate, 5w30 maybe to thin for the hot weather.

Also, it is supposedly not a good idea to use synthetic oil on new engines under 5000 miles. I have seen were some say not till 10000 miles. I guess it depends on the engine.

I use Mobil 1. The car seems to like it--runs smoother. Also, just a tidbit of info.... The Cobalt SS is only supposed to use Mobil 1 5w30. The oil cap even has the Mobil 1 logo on it (which I need to get for my Cavy).

I've just started using Mobil extended 5000 and 1qt Mobil 1 syn. 5w-30 and I noticed the engine temp is cooler.

1st off, amsoil comparison tests were on a V-8 engine using a heavyweight racing oil.

2nd, every Porsche is filled with Mobil-1 at the factory. (And it has nothing to do with cooperative exploitation... ie, ferrari/shell) [speculation and opinion--for the lawyers]

So if Porsche independantly swears by Mobil-1, and they are the gurus of high performance enginges containing counterbalance shafts, I think I'll just go ahead and use Mobil-1 in my ULEV1 Ecotec 2.2 w/counterbalance shafts.

But that's just me :-)

No, synthetic oil does not eat at your seals. The truth about that is the large conditioners and detergents mixed with the PAO synthetic formulation. Synthetic oil actually had cleaning detergents that will clean sludge from previous oils. When sludge is stopping a leak in an engine that has one, then the synthetic oil reveals it.

Listen guys, I have been chaning my Mobil 1 oil every 10k miles. I did it from the start in a 92 Lumina with the 3.1 v6, a 95 escort with the 1.9 4-cyl and in a 84 toyota 4x4 pick-up 4cyl. They all have well over 200k on them. One is my brothers, one is my wifes and i sold the truck running fine. I am now doing the same with the ecotec (actually changing it every 15k as mobil 1 recommends with the new EP formula)

I pulled the valve cover in the 4x4 at around 215k and everything looked clean and tight.

The biggest thing to keep your oil life long is keeping the air clean that comes into the engine. Paper air filters do this best guys so if your looking to extend your drains, throw paper cones on your CAI or back in your stock box.
