I really don't feel too comfortable leaving them in that long, maybe 50K, anyone else?

dealership told me about 150k (in km's) or somewhere around there. After almost 40k mine look fine, but at $15 CDN for one plug, they wont be changed that often.....
Platinum tipped spark plugs are designed for long life. Also, the ever-increasing use of cleaner buring gasoline means that carbon deposits fowling the plugs is no longer an issue. Almost every new car's owner's manual recommends 100,000 miles on plugs.
exactly, cleaner gas = no/less corrosion.
they spark, that's all; you will know when it does not fire and then replace them.
corrosion isnt the problem
at least not from cleaner gas
id replace them before they dont work

I bought my '99 S-10 2.2 brand new almost 5 years ago. 80,000 miles later, the original plugs are sparkin just fine.
Not J related, but, we've got a van that has a little over 100,000 miles on the original ignition pieces. So it is possible.
When i got my ION my buddy who is a saturn tech said that the platinum tip spark plugs are made to last 100K miles he said that when its that time all you have to do is take them out and clean them off and they will go another 100k mi.
My engine (2.4) was rebuilt at 83,000 and the plugs looked awesome when they were pulled. Since then i have 103,000 on it and they are still looking good. I check em every other time i change oil.

In AUS the standard for the Ecotec ZE18/14 motors is 60,000km. Mostly for emissions performance (or continuing compliance)..
Only recently has AUS started to have decent fuel at service stations...it was a huge change to have 98RON!
In response to what Joe Gonzales wrote, when he stated the tech told him to clean the plug`s, and put them back in. I wouldn`t recomend doing that, platnum tiped plugs are not meant to be regaped, or cleaned. (something with the special coating they have.)
gm platinums will do 100k with no problem,ive seen them go 150 k and still dont give any drivability concern.also there is a coating on the threads and spin right out with no problem even 10 years old,come right out.I think they first appeared in the 94 cavs,had a few electrodes break off on those and fall in the cylinder,that problem is long since solved
I've seen even older ones (aka geo storm) go at least 130k mi.
As long as you you only weigh 12.5% of the vehicles weight capacity or less, they'll probably last you 120k mi. easy.
We had an 02 grand am come in with a misfire. Plugs were replaced and it still misses a little, at right about 100k we had problems and worn out plugs stressed the coils so now they are damaged as well.
You may want to remove the plugs and put anti-seize on the threads so you can remove them at 100,000 miles. Vacuum or blow any dirt away from them before removal.
For anyone reading these threads on the new eco tech motors you DO NOT USE anti seize, dont know the exact reason but if you look in the repair manuels they capitalize and bold this statment. I ran 120,000mi on my original plugs they came out fine they looked great and got the same gas milage as the new ones from the dealer. (disapionting to get the same gas milage after spending $14.00 a peice)
