If I had a dime for every time I saw Echotec, errr, Ecotec spelled wrong, I'd be rich!
Oh, and the displaying my real name instead of my screen name is kinda lame =\ <br>

I have a problem with the idle some times, i think others have the same problem too. I also was told at the dealership that at about 45,000 miles the 02 sensors will go bad. <br>

every couple months when i come to a complete stop my engine likes to shut off, yet the dealer tells me theres nothing wrong with it. kinda funny
I'm at 48,000 and no real big problems yet. I've had the same problem as ALAN a couple of times with my car dieing but thats about it. Only thing I had replaced on the engine was the starter. And as far as the o2 sensors going out at 45K that dealer is nuts.
Well, I have experienced the same issues with out two Ecotecs. I have 12,000 miles on the Automatic Cavalier LS Sport sedan, and 2,000 on the 5-speed Cavalier LS Sport Coupe. They both have shut off at stop signs and lights during their first 1,500 miles. The sedan hasn't done it for over 5 months. I've had the Coupe since September 16, 2003 and it has shut off about three times. I just thought it was part of the break-in process of the ECOs.
mine is fine and 21000 miles is going great

I've had some idling issues with my 03 ecotec Cavalier. When I come to a stop, and press in the clutch, the rpms drop real fast, and then the car stalls, but eventually the rpms bump back up to 900(normal idle).
Also, there have been a couple of times where it wouldn't start on the first try. This happened just the other day. I held the starter over for atleast 8 seconds, plenty of time, and it showed no signs of starting up. Tried it again, and it started up.
I've taken it to the dealer, but they can't find a problem. I wish my car would throw a check engine light so I could atleast get a hint of what's wrong.
Anyhow, other than the idle issues, the car runs great, and is decently fast.
Let's get a show of hands of who has had idle issues with their ecos.
I just threw a code evap sensor. Dealer won't tell me whats going on just to take it in. I have 50k on it. Any ideas. It has been good and stills seems to run fine. I am going to try and find out what is wrong before I take it in. Time to park it for a while.
I have a clunking noise in the suspension - but there is a open campain from GM on it. Also i have gone threw a seat track and a blower motor so far. other than that , im happy with her.
Check out my Part Out List!! Great Prices !!

I have that same clunking noise in the suspension, but the dealer just can't seem to hear it when I leave the car with them - like, maybe they're deaf? But, my Cavie is getting close to the 36,000 mark and the only problems I've really had was the water pump went out at 6,000 miles. Aside from that, Charlie has been a great car - love my ecotec! <br>
just the rattling of the clutch but running good

Hey guys/gals, if you read up a few posts you will see mine, complaining about my bad idle. Well I took it in today, and they said they're pretty sure they know what's wrong with it. He said when he turned the AC on, that the idle started fluctuating back and forth. He said he thinks it's an electrical problem regarding the load that get puts on the system. Anyhow they said they will hopefully have it fixed by tomorrow. Guess what they gave me as a rental, 03 Chevy Suburban, with leather, DVD, and OnStar!!!
What happens if you press the OnStar button just to play around. They're not going to tag my car or anything, and report it to the dealership are they. Have you all done prank calls to OnStar? <br>

The only problem Ive had is the idle problem. When I come to a stop sometimes it idles down really low and acts like it will die out it but it doesnt. I have 12000 miles and my only mods are a muffler and weapon r intake. Actually it seems like the idle problem is better since I put the intake on, but It is probably just coincidence. Other than that so far I love the car, best 10,000 I have spent!
eco-power 04, I think that was a recall. I was having the same problem and the dealership just had to install a bracket or brace.

well i just changed the oil in her cav and theres some kinda goo coming from the hole that part of the water pump , and the power steering fluid is low and no signs of a visible leak ????
and the trans shifts hard at times
<br>
I've got 27,000 miles without a problem. <br>
I don't hear the noises in my automatic 03 Cavy Ls Sport, but I hear so many noises from my 03 Cavy LS Sport 5-speed (2,600 miles and counting). I hear it especially on curves at times, and mostly when I am turning. Hope our cars don't have the same recalls/problems as the Aurora, and other FWD GMs.
About the Idling, I get that too with the 5-spd. Our automatic one is behaving perfectly for now (except for the issues during the first few thousand miles).
Has anyone tried Denso Iridium plugs in their ecotec yet??
I have 18,000 on my 03 LS Sport 5spd, and I have a few problems. I have the idle issue just like most of you have. Mine will most of the time drop down to about 500 rpm(2-3 times daily) sometimes it will shut off others it won't, then sometimes(rarely) it will go up to about 1500 and stay until I come to a complete stop for about 5 sec. I think that is really it on the engine. As for other things, my trunk leakswhen it rains, suspension rattail(in front), red goo coming out of the light/cruise switch, rubber piece hanging out in between the back of the driver fender and door. I think that is all, it is all going to be checked out at the dealer Friday.
Ohh, and my CD player stoped working. There is a CD in it, but it won't eject it and when you hit the CD button it does nothing.
Only problem with mine, and it's only got 1000km's on it so far is a creaking sound from front suspension when weight's transferred. <br>

The only problem I had with mine, is the not starting thing. I was told to turn the key to where all the dummy lights come on and let it sit there a few seconds.
Oh, and not so good gas mileage. I am averaging like 21mpg.
