As the title says, Right now I just changed my oil for the second time. I changed it at 1160 miles because I wanted to and now I just changed it at 4140 miles. I have used castrol gtx 5w-30 both times and after this one I'm switching to mobil 1. What do you use. Oh yeah Mine is an 2005 M5 and the manual says it takes 4qts., My sisters is a 2004 A4 and her maunal says it takes 5qts, whats up with that.?

5w30 mobil 1 , in both of my 2.4's and the g/f uses the same oil as well
and if i rmember correctly there was a error in the manuals , they use either 5 or 5 1/2

I use Petro Canada's 5W30 Synthetic Blend. If that wasn't available to me at a good price I would be using Mobil 1 or Valvoline full synthetic.
I have a 2004 Cavalier with 2.2 Ecotec and there is an error in the owner's manual. The manual indicates that it takes 3.8 liters (4 US Quarts) of oil. When I did the first oil change I knew something was wrong because I put more than 4.5 liters (Near 5 US Quarts) to get it to the full mark on the dipstick. I contacted GM by email and they replied telling me that the motor oil capacity for my 2.2 Ecotec is 4.8 liters (Approx 5 US Quarts)

mobile 1 full synthetic 5w30
5 quarts to the very top of the dipstick. I think I used castrol 5w-30. next change will probably be royal purple.
I only use Mobil 1 5w30 fully synthetic in my vauxhall 2.2 16v Ecotec
mobile 1 full synthetic 5w30
I have 25K miles on my 04 using 5w30. would it be a good idea to change over to synthetic? I live in Germany right now and the speeds over here are a little faster so I have been changing the oil every 3000 miles. if I changed over to synthetic how would I do that, by that I mean making sure all the other oil is out?
i also use mobil 1 fully synthetic 5w30 oil along with gm filter. i have gone 1400 miles past a oil change and its still gold color
but i really need to change it today...

You can mix synthetic and non-synthetic. So no worries about getting all the old oil out.
Synthetic will clean out the old 1. So no worries. The oil will be major black for the first 4 oil change after that its gonna be ok.
well is it worth to change over to synthetic if I am doing an oil change every 3000 miles or would the change do more damage the good?

well wheter it is synthec or not you have to change the oil every 5000km or 3000miles.
You can change your oil every day, it still will not hurt the car. Unless you didn't put enough oil in. Also synthetic is suppose to break down slower. So change intervals can be extended a little.
"Mobil 1 5-30 synthetic folks. Number one recommended by all the wrench monkeys at ecotecpower.com!" Ahh, i can see the commercial on the Speed channel right now.......
Just remember, synthetic oil REALLY slows down engine wear, which is good except for the BREAK IN period. If you use it right off the bat, the motor won't break in, like, AT ALL. Not sure what that would do, but your motor becomes more efficient when you break it in properly, like get higher VE and stuff, ya know?
Man, I was born twenty years too late. I wish they were still around.
what ever gm put in when they replaced the engine
its a cavalier i should get 2 cars and the hit
i hear that some synthetic oil company say you can change it ever 15k miles. my dad does this on the intrepid they have and its still running like the day they got it. i usually go 4k or so i am not gonna do 15k. thats just insane...
i think listening to anything an oil manufacture says is insane just cahnge it every 3-5 k
Seeing as they make the oil....how would it be insane? Anyway, I've been thinking of switching to synthetic lately....Been using Havoline 5w30 since I've had the car, and on my old 2.2 also.

because every car is diffrent when i worked at jiffy lube we had a rep come from an oil company and show us charts of when oil breaks down and they all broke down around the same area synthetic oil just protects better during its use
I switched to Valvoline full synthetic at 6k now at 23k. I noticed some nice differences when I switched. I still get it changed every 3k.
5w30 GM stuff, first 2 changes where done at Saturn. Now that there is over 10K kms on the motor i'm gonna check out Royal Purple, only one shop in town carries it (or I could order it) I've heard only good things, if not i'll go with Mobil 1 5w30 tri-synth.
I'd like to hear more about that royal purple. I used 5-30 mobil full syn. on my 91 2200 and I noticed a huge difference so when I got my eco I used it too (after GM released the oil filters 3 months after I bought the car).
