how much air presure do i put in tires 215 45 17s?
It should say on the side of the tire.
it doesn't say on the side of the tire.
what kind of tires are they? Make and model
the make of my tires is nankang or something like that might have spelled it wrong but anyway it says max pressure 44lbs.
Um, you may wanna try the driver's door edge panel. My G5 wants 35 all around.
Performance tires are different though. If they were factory replacements and the same size, then the door edge pannel would be correct. 35 psi in a performance tire might be ok depending on its size but with it saying 44psi, i would try like 40ish. If anyone else has input or i am wrong plz let me know.
The door panel is good, as you say, providing you are using near-similar OE tires. The number on the sidewall is the tire max when cold, not optimized for ride/economy/performance combination like the label on the door edge panel. Typically, the panel number is about 10 psi less than the sidewall.
there is no set pressure for non stock sized tires but......
I never run less than 30psi on a street tire. If youre unsure a a safe place to start(or even stay at) is to use a mumber halfway between the door number and the max pressure number on the door.
IE: if your car says 32psi on the door and your new tires have a max of 44psi then the middle would be 38psi.
If the door said 35 and the tire said 50 then....you got it the middle would be 42.5.
Youll prolly want to be between 32-36 on a J body(any higher feels pretty rough)
I never recommend inflating tires to anymore than 4psi LESS then the MAX TIRE rating.
So if yout tire says 44psi is the max, dont ever put more than 40psi in it. Since air pressure increases about 1psi for every 10-12 degree temperature increase, you dont ever want to inflate your tires to a pressure where they could exceed the safe max(44psi in your case) Hence my 4spi(on the street) guideline.
