Hey John I am not long after putting the inlet manifold from the 2.4L Chevy Cobalt onto my 2.2 I got a gain of 20hp from this mod I also have a stainles steel straight through exhaust system 200 cell sports catt and oval catt backbox I am going to put cams, con rods, pistons and a remap to pull all the mods together I am also going to put a 4-2-1 Exhaust Manifold(header) on we have found on our site that the Exhaust Manifold(header) smooths out the torque dip @ 2k-3krpm we had a before and after dyno run and as I said from the 2.4 inlet I gained 20bhp we also got the Throttle Body from the 2.4L but there seems to be a problem getting this to work properly with the 2.2 ECU the company we done the group buy with is waiting on a couple of companies from Germany to come up with a solution to this problem the injectors seem to shut down... Hope this helps some mate
The reason is because the 2.4L generates more incoming air than what's on the map bar. The dip in torque or power loss from 2k-3k is actually a tuning issue that GM designed to increase fuel economy. Once removed the car is like a new car.
The 2.4L Intake manifold has said to bring more high end torque, but hurts the mid range so you'll want a mid length header to try and bring that back up. Your basic bolt-ons will add about 20-25hp max.
Like stated if you want big power, get ready to drop some money.
My plans are grabbing an Eaton M62 Supercharger and building the motor to support a mild amount of boost (no more than 12-15psi). I'm shooting for the 275whp range and build cost I"m trying to stay under $3,500.
