I am thinking of swapping a Ecotec engine into a VW Vanagon. Before I start I am researching the engine management issues that will arise. I would like to post a few questions. Pmail is fine for answers. I will probably use 2004 2.2's and 05+ 2.4's.
What kind of tach signal does the engine/BCM put out to run the tach? Pulses per rev/ and voltage?
What drives the oil pressure light and charge indicator light. BCM or directly from engine to dash?
PASSKEY. I heard it can be bypassed with a reisister?
Speed sensor - 4000 ppm OK?
BCM - manual and automatics different?
I know Ecotecs have been swapped into lots of vehicles so these issues have been dealt with. I would like to thank any and all in advance for the answers and help.
John
I think you will honestly get a better response and answer on ecotecforum.com
I honestly can't help you.

Thanks, I will try that forum as well.

No problem.

Tach, Oil light, and charge indicator are all sent via the Class 2 data line from PCM to the instrument cluster.
PASSKEY on the ECO engines isnt resistor based, its a hall effect sensor.
The vehicle speed sensor is a magnetic generator, the PCM calculates speed based on voltage output and cycle frequency, and transmits it across the Class 2 data link to the cluster, as far as I know this cant be used by typical 4000PPM aftermarket speedo's.
