I am a new participant in this site and forum so forgive any questions that have already been discussed. I have a LSJ ecotec out of a 2006 ss supercharged and am looking to build it up. It seems that all of the effort though from GM perfomance parts and other perfomance co.s Anyway what is the story with the crank and rods in the lsj? Do they self destruct at 280ish hp like the 2.2l L61 or can they be pushed higher....and how high?
The LSJ rods are considerably thicker than the L61 Connecting Rods, so no.
The pistons are the weak point on it but even still, you'd have to either be pushing alot of power or creating alot of heat for you to have any type of issues (most common is the ringlands going).
The Crankshaft for both engines...I've never heard anyone having any crankshaft issues at all. Even GM has some high rating for them before you run into any issues, so that should be the last of your worries.

your lsj rods are good to around 350 to be safe the crank in both should be changed around 550 should. but your pistons will go out around 300-320 but will need to be raced for that, if just a weekend racer they will last
350hp is the safe ceiling for pistons and rods in the LSJ. the crank is good for well past 500hp.
Besides the rods and pistons ECOtecs are much more sensitive to operating speed(rpm) and camshaft design than most other factors.
