i have a cobalt and ive got intake and exhaust and now im looking to build up my motor so it can handle a turbo kit....ive read somewhere that the 2.2 stock internals aren't good after like 210hp...anyone have any thoughts???

It depends on what you're aiming to do.

If you're building the engine, you shouldn't be worried about the capabilities of the stock bottom end.

There are plenty of people with turbo kits who are running just fine, it's a matter of being realistic with what type of power you're aiming for out of your engine (and boost pressure in combination with the turbocharger).

Put it this way, the GM Supercharger Kits put you around 250 BHP. GM wouldn't have made the kit if they thought peoples cars were going to blow up. There have been multiple people reaching upwards of 300 WHP.

So you can do the math from there...

Well first and foremost, the maximum boost "kit" is not a kit. It's basically universal parts thrown into a box, shipped to you while getting you to over pay for a kit that doesn't fit your car and he uses generic cheap parts that you can find on ebay.

You can buy a kit from Pace Performance but also understand that this kit was not designed for your vehicle for the most part. It could physically fit but the reflash for your PCM would not work on your computer...totally different than the J-bodies PCM. You'd have to find a way to control your fuel management.

Good kit. Did you want to know something specific?

compared to the gm supercharger what is the install like and which makes more power with a 2.2 ecotec, is the turbo upgradeable like the charger has diff pulleys etc to go to stage 2 ?

Installation...asking the wrong person. I've never even dealt with one.

As far as upgradability, it's just like any other turbo setup. It uses a T3 flange on the manifold so if you decided to upgraded, you have a wide variety of turbochargers you can switch to because it is such a standardized flange style or you can just get the 20G upgrade through Hahn (Mitsubishi Turbocharger). You could also raise the pressure on the turbocharger that comes with the kit (16G Mitsubishi Turbocharger).

FYI: The 16G turbocharger is internally wastegated.

Stock internals can take 250 HP fine. The internals gave out at 283HP not N2o. I plan on running up 11 or 12 psi, max, on stock internals.

Wouldn't you be worried more about the stock bottom end, normally on an engine buildup? The head gasket will take a hit, but so could the pistons and rods. I don't have personal experience with the power threshold needed to break this stuff, but I'd imagine it would be important to think about. If you want alot of boost.

I thought the GM supercharger kit was quoting around 200 hp... I've seen turbo kits costing only $1k more quoting 240+ at the wheels. There are differences in power delivery, but the cost difference is worth it if you're willing to spend $3k on the supercharger.

He was talking about replacing his pistons and rods...hence...a build up. So that's why I said what his stock parts can handle shouldn't matter if he's planning on replacing them.

When I get to the point of building up my engine, I am going to do pistons, rods and cams. That should be good for well over 300 hp!
