Like the topic says. I wonder if they will abandon the 2.2 Eco once the 2.4 makes its debut, although I doubt it. Any insights?

The well-known Ecotec 2.2-liter is joined for the ’05 model year by an all-new, larger-displacement Ecotec 2.4-liter with variable valve timing, with first usage in the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt.
Ecotec 2.2-liter: The original is better than ever
The Ecotec 2.2-liter was the first production version of GM Powertrain’s Ecotec modular all-aluminum four-cylinder engine architecture. The Ecotec 2.2-liter currently powers nearly a dozen GM and Opel models in North America and Europe, and will be available in the 2005 Cobalt.
The Ecotec 2.2-liter is expected to produce better than 140 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 150 lb.-ft. of torque at 4000 rpm in the new Cobalt.

I'd say, 2.2 is the base engine, with an upgrade to the 2.4 available on the LS or similar trim. More then likely a boosted ecotec will be available on the SS or similar trim when its released. (06?) <br>

If I had a dime for every time I saw Echotec, errr, Ecotec spelled wrong, I'd be rich!
There is the 2.2Ecotec (for base model I'm guessing)
Then there will be the 2.4Ecotec (for a sport model?)
And the SS is going to have a 2.0 supercharged Ecotec

Well it looks like the Cobalt will have all three
Just to re-cap:
The 2.2 Eco will be standard issue, the 2.4 will be in both sedan and coupe SS models, and the 2.0 S/C will be reserved for the SS Supercharged coupe.

the new 2.2 puts out 145 hp and the current engine Is 140
I don't think that they are gong to do the 2.4 ecotec any more, atleast not at this time.
Last i read was...
New SS for this year only was going to have 2.0 Supercharged..
Next year the SS will have the 2.4 non-supercharged..
So from what i've heard, this is the only year they will be supercharging the cobalt... or so they say..
new here and I know this post is old so I guess what I am going to say is old news to everyone...06 Cobalts will have three engines...the 2.0SC, 2.2, and 2.4VVT

they should Turbo charge it (the 2.4), give it say 7psi, and make it push 240 hp stock. that would be Killer.
