2004 Cavalier ~ 15.98 - Bone Stock
2005 Cavaliers are guaranteed to me built in Mexico, 2004's you can tell from the vin number where it was made. Mine was built in the US.
New for 2005
Deletion of the Bi-Fuel compressed natural gas (CNG) system
^^ thats the only difference GM lists
i jus found out that the 04 cav's didnt have a resonator between the cat and the muffler-however my 05 does have one...well not for long-its too small of an inlet...im goin 2¼ anyways-anyone have any exhaust clips of an ecotec w/a borla?

well if you remove the resonator your cav will turn into a civic..or at least sound like one..it may or may not grow the 4 ft. tall wing

I must have been mis-informed.
How do you know yours was built in Ohio?
by looking at the vin # ...
I hope your joking because ECOTEC is just a name, there is no extra cam lobe or variable valve timing on ours cars, the new ECOTEC in certain Cobalts will get I-VVT though..........
As my misinformed Honda buddy stated when we were making a down hill run,
"oh my god, this thing does have Ectotec!"
actually-the Ecotec, Vortec, Duratec, Zetec...they all work basically on the same principle as Vtec-only the Ecotec is the closest thing to the Vtec-its real sluggish untill bout 3500 rpms then it picks up quick-like a vtec kickin in which vtec is an extra exhaust port per cylinder which improves acceleration...however it was designed for fuel economy-from my understanding the Ecotec works off a similar concept...either way at 3500 rpms....its off like a bat outa hell...

um... no.
Not trying to be an ass about it but your understanding is not correct.
VTEC. Research what this actually stands for.
The Ecotec engine does not have variable valve timing like Honda's VTEC engines.
Duratec is a V6 ford engine that does not have variable valve timing.
Vortec engines are OHV engines.
Ztec is like the Ecotec in that it is just a 4cyl DOHC engine without variable valve timing.
Lastly, the most common mis-concemtion about VTEC is that it was designed for performance, it was mostly designed for low emissions and economy, and the extra power is a result of the better more efficient design.
Look here:

actually i wasnt trying to be an ass however-i did state that vtec was for economy and performance was jus an extra bonus-and u are wrong one one point-the Duratec engine is not jus at V6-because the 2.5L Duratec motor in the 02 and up rangers is an I4

Again no, you are wrong. The 2.5 Duratec is also a V6. It is not in the Ranger. I never said you were being an ass. I only stated you were not correct.
There is a 4cyl engine in the Ranger and it is a 2.3L DOHC 4cyl Duratec engine, still no variable valve timing like VTEC.
Brandon Gathye wrote:well if you remove the resonator your cav will turn into a civic..or at least sound like one..it may or may not grow the 4 ft. tall wing
i dont have any resonator on my MagnaFlow Cat-back and its way not a lousy Honda noise. Beside resonator i dont need it.

My fault i didnt mean 2.5 Duratec...i was meaning 2.3 Duratec-the only motors that come in rangers now is the 2.3, 3.0, 4.0-98-01's had a 2.5L which is a 4 cylinder...basically a bored over 2.3 from the earlier rangers-and sorry i wasnt feelin that good that day-i didnt exactly read everthing rite-so basically -there is nothing special about this ecotec engine-it just is peppy at about 3500 rpms-thats it-either way its still impressive-now my question is...and not tryin to sound like a honda person(i hate hondas) as it was stated earlier certain cobalts will have I-VVT....any chance of a head swap?

I don't know the answer to your question.
My opion is... why bother. The Cavalier/Sunfire weighs alot less than the Cobalt/ION. Having raced an automatic ION with my automatic Cavalier, the difference is pretty significant. The ION/Cobalt "needs" variable valve timing to keep up.
I'd just stick to "normal" modifications, less headache, less expensive. I
that is true...i was jus curious-they mite need all that to keep up...jus think if we had it to begin w/-y couldnt chevy think ahead for this cavalier lol-so is the 2005 the last yr for the cavalier? everything from here on out is going to be the cobalt?

Yep, 2005 is the last year for Cavalier.
