Going to buy an aem cai and need to know what size of bypass valve i need i found them in sizes from 2in to 3in. does it mater what size of bypass valve i go with or is there a benifit with the larger ones. also any other things i need to do to go with the aem cai.
Just letting u know make sure u get get the bypass valve installed in the intake before u install it into ur car. Reasons y are that it is a tight area that u will be putting the bv in on the cai and u are going to have to cut the cai where u need to put the bv. i have a aem cai and i too purchased a bv but never installed it, in fact i returned it. i have never had any problems with sucking up water, and thank god. good luck
Same as Gray Maudsley: I have the AEM CAI and I dont have the bypass valve. I have had it in for over a year and a half and drive all winter ect. with no problems. I just try not to drive as hard in the rain/slush roads.........besides the bypass valve robs you of power, if you are going to put it in you might as well just get a short ram intake i.m.o

I would run without the bv but i dont want to risk it saw what happens to an egine when it gets hydrolocked. what gains will i see in the low rpm or high rpm range with the bv and with out the bv.
DONT GET THE BYPASS VALVE!
as long as you dont submerge your air filter in water you will be fine. I had my air filter sitting right in the foglight hole (no foglights) for almost a year up here in Chicago. I never once had an issue with water in the intake. EVER.
And I DON'T drive like a grandma in the wet weather either.

now back on topic, at first it was more of a percaution I drive somewhat normal now depending on safety of roads. like Team Vision Racing (aka hypsy) you would have to sumerge your filrter in water plus have the throtle open if im not mistaken, now if you manage that then you have bigger problems...........now that being said, i dont know what the power difference would be with/without the BV......if you are concerened with it which is understandable then go with a short ram(WAI) the only difference I can see you noticing then would be after driving around a little the you short intake is getting air from the hot engine near it, where the CAI would still be getting the same temp it start with from outside the engine........
the difference would proably be the same as with/without the BV but a short ram is cheaper.

Well I have one on my Cavalier, drove to the bash last year from Montreal to Indy (20hres drive), and it rain almost all the time we were on the road, don't have the BP and didn't have any problem, like they say if your not planning to use your car as a boat, don't bother
