Is it worth it to mod these cars? I've owned in the past an 03 eclipse, srt-4, lexus is300, and a spec v. this car just doesn't feel like it's up to the abuse I put cars I mess with thru. Anyone with any experience in modding them with any advice on first mods? planning on going FI so don't want to waste money on parts that would be useless after I buy a turbo or supercharger kit.
check out gm part # 1780003, i know that one has been used on the cobalt 2.2L.
if your friend wrecked his cobalt SS, ask him if you can take it off and check to see if it will fit.
also i would consult with gm about a few other parts for your cobalt for engine durability.
there is also a book out on gm sport compact performance for the cobalt.
if you are going to later increase the boost, i would also look into a rather strong upgrade to your cooling system.

In my opinion, if you don't have a main goal or something to focus on then I wouldn't build A CAR period. And when I say goals I am talking about things such as Drag Racing, Autocross, General Track Racing or even just to make a Show Car. But like I said, that's my opinion.

If you have previously owned this caliber of cars, why did you buy a cavalier?

nitrous technology has improved over the years, that would be a good idea. its always a good combo with a turbocharger, using nitrous to get up to rpm to prevent turbo lag. an intake could be useful as the first mod also. it is popular belief that doing your exhaust and header could do you some good, but they may need to be changed depending on how much hp you want.
then i would slowly move into valve springs and valves as you can mod these without forced induction and they will be ready when you change. pistons as stated above by someone else, with a lower compression ratio would be somewhat pointless unless you have forced induction already.
