Cold Air Intakes

Does anyone know who makes Cold Air Intakes for the ecotec 2.2L on a 2004 Cavalier [5-speed]?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Regards.

check out AEM at AEMpower.com

I've got one on mine and I'd recommend it.
Get a bypass valve while you're at it.
You'll be glad you did one day, trust me.

Cool, thanks man. It says it will work on the 2003 Cavalier Ecotec 2.2L, but it should be fine on the 2004 Cavalier cause nothing has changed right? Thanks again.

I would check with AEM first ... I could be wrong, but I think I saw a post on the org about AEM looking for someone with an '04 Cav (w/o ABS) to test fit their CAI for some reason
Re: Cold Air Intakes

Yup, just read that post actually, I have ABS, so it should work, but I just e-mailed AEM anyways to make sure. Thanks.

that post is just about a diiffrent mounting point for the intake. The CAI mounts on the ABS module, so they need to figure out where to mount the intake on cars w/o ABS.

so you're good to go

as far as C.A.I. goes...i would recommend the RKsport intake. It's only $165 vs. the AEM intake which is over 300 and produces equal or less HP

The RKsport intake has a 3IN K&N filter/inlet and CAN increase your HP by 10
vs. the AEM which adds roughly 8.5

i know thats not a big diff. but hey if you're gonna save money and get more power than why the hell not.

By the way... as far as performance goes, a cold air intake should be the first mod you do in my opinion.. you'll notice the change right away because the stock intake that comes with the 2.2 is so damn restrictive, thats why you get such high gains with a new intake.

Cool thanks alot guys. Tyler do you have the RKsport Intake? If so do you have any pics of it installed? I'm still deciding between RKsport and AEM. And This will be my first mod on my car, so I want to decide right And after this, I'm thinking new throttle body, intake manifold and header. After that I'm not sure what to get. Thanks again.

No Aaron, i do not currently have the RKsport intake installed, so therefore i don't have any pics. It is soon to come... i was just giving you my opinion based on the HP increase. The only reason i would go with AEM is because they've made a bigger mark on the whole tuning scene. But they also deal mainly with imports. RKsport deals solely with domestics and have a whole research and development team for the ecotec engine. Like i said before, the stock intake is so restrictive, that replacing it will allow obviously the cooler, denser air to flow in mass amounts through the throttle body, thus giving you more HP

hope this helped

Ive got the RkSport Intake and it makes a big difference to me, the car definitely pulls harder on the low end. Ill try and get pics up soon.
I came across this Induction Dynamics CAI for the Ecotec. http://induction-dynamics.com/ecotec.html

Anyone know anything about it and how it compares to the others?

I went for a driv eon my lunch break and I really listened to the car and hit it hard going into 3rd gear, and now that I'm back I realize that the car is definitely pulling harder in the mid to top end range in the higher gears. So I;d say the RkSport intake is definitely worth the money, although its a little lacking in show quality.
Scorpio1, Sounds good, did you install it yourself? I've looked at the instructions to install it, You have to take off the wheel? Is it hard to install? Thanks.

hey man, you gotta get the AEM Cold Air intake. TRUST ME

I HAD the RK Sport Intake, well, still have it for sale (plug)

loved it, easy install, great performance gain. My first mod, I actually think I won a few races
just because of the intake.

But now I have the AEM CAI

Even better performance gain, a little more difficult to install compared to RK's
(just because you have to remove the intake bong in the fenderwell)

But imo, Well worth the Extra $$$

you might want to get a bypass valve too, you'll be glad you did one day!

actually RK's intake is a W.A.I. as in Warm Air Intake.
The closer the intake is to the engine, the warmer the air. and you should know,

cold air = more air density = more power

heres some comparison pics: the first is RK's The Second is AEMs

notice RK's filter next to the engine, while you can't even see the filter on the AEM CAI.
because its in the fenderwell, where the air is cold

and don't EVER believe any companies "claimed HP increase" without seeing a Dyno, like for example AEM. They show 8 horsepower increase dyno, which is power @ the wheels so that would be like 15 @ the crank

RK just says +10 HP just to get you to buy their intake. I only bought it cause it was the only thing on the market at the time.

I mean come on, AEM is known mostly for their intakes, RK for their body kits.

the choice is yours

and sorry for the long post

By the way...what did you use to polish your valve cover? Did you take it off and sand it and polish it that way? Just curious...probably gonna do mine before long.

nah man I polished it on the car. waited till the engine was cold, then used some
steel wool and some "blue magic" polish and voila!
I need to hit it some more....

and I've had this sittin for about a month now so I'm not in a hurry to sell.

Lemme know when you're ready to buy

Sounds good...there's a guy coming to look at my 96 thursday...and is VERY interested in it...so if that gets sold...i'll have a lil extra cash lying around...
How difficult was it to polish it on the car? That sounds a lot better and faster than takin it off...

Re: Cold Air Intakes

not hard at all

just hit it with the steel wool til it looks dull, than rub some
metal/chrome polish (I used "blue magic", heard its the bomb)

let it sit, then buff it out.

I did this all by hand but you might get better results buffing the polish out
with a machine buffer.

good luck man

let me know when you're ready, email is in the profile
