2.0 ecotec supercharged turbo
Tuesday, May 31, 2005 8:56 AM
are there any turbos being made for the 2.0l ecotec engines? I was wondering if it is even possible to run a turbo and a supercharger. I was just thinking how cool it would be to have the new cobalt ss supercharged engine and slap a turbo on it. do they even make a turbo for the 2.0l ecotec without the supercharger. just curious!

I'm not sure you can do both. I could be wrong, but you could put NOS on a supercharged engine.

there is a company by the name if PSI-FI that are currently developing a twin-charging system for the ION redline. They have done work on other tuner cars like the WRX and SRT-4 so they are a reputable source as well. I believe at the moment though, their website is down, but you can google their name and you will find alot of info.

So then technically.. you could take a 2.0sc and throw a Saab 9-3 turbo on to it?

You can twin charge anything....in reality though you would be better off taking the supercharger and just doing a small single turbo. I dont think the benefits of twincharging offset the pain and money that it costs.

There are deff benefits (sp) of twin charging.. it does cost a boat load of money, but this way u will always have power at any time... a supercharger has power at all times, but b\c u need to build boost in a turbo system first it takes time for the turbo to provide power.. so while the turbo is making the power ur getting power from the super charger, and than at about 4500 rpms u will get most of the power from the turbo..supercharger= low rps turbo= high rpms.. thats what i have been told and i have read a little on.. i could be wrong lol, but i would love to do it, u dont see many street cars twin charged lol

Nowadays turbo lag isn't an issue. For the questioner, yes, you can do both. It has been done for 40 years. The old 2 cycle diesels, where roots blowers came from, were one of the first applications.

um james that is definitely true, but doing both would be a waste of money unless your rich, I say upgrade internals, either get a turbo or super, upgrade turbine, maybe nos even though some people consider that cheating.i mean that would be @!#$in badass to have both if you have all the money to do that and to pay for all that maintanance.

it is true you can do both but it really is just a waste of time and money unless you are building the car just for racing... but if you really want to you might want to check out some mini cooper sites cuz they were some of the first to build and document the twin charging system and can probably even give you all the math you need to size the turbo and supecharrger... well good luck with the build and i want to know results
