hey what's up , just had a check engine light light come up a couple weeks ago for a evap emission problem, just wondering if anybody has had this problem and what the most likely cause would be, as I dont own a scanner or a multimeter at this moment. Just wondering if the air purge solenoid went bad or if the code means there may be a leak in the system. any replys appreciated thanks

it happened to me to , but it was that i did not screw on right the gas cap
i tested my gas cap its not bad, funny though
what code was it??
even if the gas cap tested good EVAP tests take a long time to run and therefore dont clear right away.

um the code was p0440 it just said a general evap problem, i know it takes a long time to run the test, just didnt know if it means a leak in the system? any help much appreciated thanks

p0440 is the code for a gross(large) EVAP leak. usually means a gas cap, but it could also be a leaking tank, leaking purge or vent lines, a vent solenoid that wont close or a bad fuel tank pressure sensor.

alright well i guess im just gonna to have to use the smoke machine or somethin and hopefully i find the leak or ill just replace the vent solenoid, i hooked up a scanner and tryed to operate the purge solenoid and could not hear anything so hopefully it is that and replacing will fix it, thanks for all the help

check closely around the fuel pump seal
I have not yet found a charcoal canister on my car yet so i belive it must be a bad seal on your fuel cap. The Locking replacement ones suck! I would also inspect the area around your fuel tank for a cracked evap line and stuff like that.
The EVAP charcoal canister is under the car in the space between the axle and fuel tank, right near the fuel filter.
