I heard the newer Grand Ams have some kind of LSD or traction control that seriously robs them of power but makes them more driveable.
I'm inclined to believe this because last year I raced a brand-new Trans Am GT with the Ram Air option and it didn't win by very much (and it should have since I was in my 200k mile S10 work truck). The truck, in it's hey day, was a monster (well over 350lbs-ft), but with old age and neglect (it ended up being a work truck) I was usually surprised that it actually started when I turned the key, let alone ran decent.
I know this is the Ecotec group, but I am very torn between three cars; an IROC-Z with t-tops (has to be 350tpi and an 89 - not so easy to find in good condition), an 03+ Ecotec Cavalier (2dr with sunroof and 5spd), or a V6 Grand Am GT coupe with 5spd and sunroof. I've got probably five to seven months before I decide, so it might be late enough in the year that I can get the newer 2.4L Ecotec that's supposed to be coming out soon. I dunno.
Any help is very much appreciated.
