Hi guys.
Just wondering here how many have done any top end work (PnP head, cams, maybe even intake manifold) and what the results were.
I know a lot of guys that tried their own cams had prolems with the timing and therefore threw some codes. What about some good experiences?
Also, anyone have any head work done, and again, what were the results? PnP, angle grind - that sorta thing. Any codes thrown, dyno sheets etc?
I am SERIOUSLY considering a top end build before moving on to the bottom end, and just want to hear from the people with EXPERIENCE so I know what I may expect.
I know this may seem like a newb post, but really, it is a mess on here and the org to find something that has a concise breakdown of what I am looking for.

It really depends on the additional mods you have to your engine. Head work like this will show very little improvement by itself, especially on a efficient modern engine like these. Head work is usually a later part of the engine build process because of the very poor dollar to power ratio. A better intake manifold or hotter cams would make more of a difference. An intake manifold is something i would suggest, but you should also get a larger throttle body and less restrictive intake ducting while your at it. I do not know what improvements this would make but it would probably be worth your while. Cams on the other hand really depend on what you have in mind. if you are planning to turbo charge or supercharge the engine down the road, a performance cam, unless it is intended for a turbo application, would be a very bad idea and sticking with the stock cams would be a better idea.
Personally, I would spend the money to turbo charge or supercharge the engine(the only way you're ever going to make really power), and then begin building a better engine on the side. This way you get a chance to learn how to tune the fueling, and if you mess up it doesn't really matter, you have a brand new race motor on the side ready to go in. A lot better then starting with a 5k engine and ruining that IMHO. <br>
