I was having this issue, but it has recentently been resolved by a change of the wastegate spring and adding a boost controller, but before that my boost would spike all the way to about 15psi and I only had a 9psi spring in the wastegate. How is this possible? It would hold 9psi until about 5500rpm then all bets were off. What's the problem?

That's what I thought too, but I tried the 7psi and 5psi springs with the same result, only they only maintained their pressure till bout 4k then it was on to 12-15psi.

This is an internal or external wastegated system?

External, It's a Turbonetics Evolution Wastegate. Comes with a 5, 7, and 9psi spring.

Gotcha. Then yeah, I'd agree with cheesecake.

maybe there is a leak on the vacuum line running to the wastegate...

the problem is actually the opposite, if it over boosts the waste gate is not venting fast enough to keep the exhaust out of the turbo. if it all goes through the turbo will spool. the waste gate maybe to small. cause the spring is to keep it closed not open. it just can only hold 9 psi of boost before it will open. if i was you i would make sure to pipe that vents the waste gate is not closed or dented, cause some how it is forcing through the turbo. but try the company, most a willing to help. good luck
