There was a previous post about rev limiters and top speeds. I have been in school for my apprenticeship and learned this for everyone who wants to know. One of the main reasons for a limit to speed is due to the factory tire rating. Certain ratings are only tested for certain speeds. Anybody ever bought a 225/40 ZR17 and wondered what the Z stood for. It is the speed rating and heat rating of that tire. It is only good for a certain top speed and heat range. But factory tires are much, much less than a Z rating. I will post all the ratings which I have, once i get the specs.
i have it here so i will beat you to it:
-P = 93 mph
-Q = 99 mph
-R = 106 mph
-S = 112 mph
-T = 118 mph
-U = 150 mph
-H = 130 mph
-V = over 130 mph
-Z = over 150 mph
ya, there are even more higher ratings than that too
My friends, I've got V rated tires and I'm happy with it
I look toward handling, traction, and looks (I like the feather pattern on tires) not high-speed driving.
ThnX for sharing though
It's nice to share
so what happens if you go faster than what your tires are rated for?
If you go faster, they heat up more and more. Then, they go boom. I'm sure you can figure out what happens next.
