one kid i kno has an ss/sc and he wants to use a blow off valve... i kno nothin of superchargers and never really had interest in how they worked so i couldnt help him with the answer if he could put one on his car. so if anyone could help him let me know. can u use a blow off valve with a supercharger?
No. Where would you put it?
I used to race cars, now I race myself.

not with a roots style supercharger
im not sure... its a cobalt ss/sc supercharger n i kno basically nothin bout superchargers, im all for turbos. sorry if that offends u. but thanks for the help
yes you can use a blow off valve, it is a pain but you can remove the lower intake and have the pipe going to the dump valve cut and weld a fitting for your bov of your liking.so yes you can i have one on my custom 04 ion i run super and turbo from Saab ( compound induction) any other question ask than but good luck!

You're comparing a vehicle with a 2 forms of forced induction compared to 1. Of course they can use an atmospheric blow off valve on that vehicle you mentioned, it has the compressor (turbocharger) before it and it can releave the air pressure. The blow off valve would still go on the charge pipe like "normal".
The original poster is referring to just a roots supercharger, alone.

i run both and you still need the dump valve for the supercharger, cause even if the turbo is relieved the manifold is still charged. and do not think the the factory dump valve helps, it just made the bov go crazy when it tried to let out boost a half second later from the blower dump. you have to relieve both inductions at the sametime, so it works with just the blower too, since they probably just want the sound, but you just need to have the manifold machined and welded to take the bov flange. hope this is clearing up, just keep posting and will continue to explain.

Makes a bit more sense.

theres no point to a BOV on a SC engine b/c since the super charger is belt driven the boost is created as the rpms rise. as the rpms fall, so does the boost so you dont have to worry about compressor surge. not to mention the stock SC setups already have a releife valve built into them. bov's are designed to release preasure on tc cars when the throttle plate is suddenly closed while the centrifical force on the compressor wheel and connecting shaft cause the turbo to keep producing preassure. bov's prevent compressor surge which puts alot of stres on the conn. shaft and central bearings. sc's dont really have this problem because they are belt driven and like brad said it already has a dump valve. well this was a little basic and repetitive but i hope it helps
many changes in the making
my favorite part about doing bodywork,.......... bondo bugers
it does have the dump valve but he is probably looking for the sound. and yes i agree he does not need the bov, but he can use it, in my case it has a purposes. do not know his, but if you drop the throttle yes the blower slows down but it still has a surge i ran in to the problem, he will not. but main point here is yes you can run the bov but there is not point if it is stock or staged. only in my case, so hope the rest agree it is a waste of time if he is just looking for some noise. hope we help, good luck
